Abstract

Skin health issues, such as dull, rough, dry, and cracked skin, are often caused by free radicals originating from environmental factors such as sun exposure, air pollution, and vehicle emissions. Free radicals can damage the structure and function of skin cells. This study aims to utilize Pluchea indica leaf extract as an active ingredient in liquid bath soap formulations with concentrations of 0.25%, 0.5%, and 1%. The soap was evaluated based on its physical properties and effectiveness against Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria. The results showed that liquid bath soap containing 1% Pluchea indica leaf extract demonstrated the highest inhibition zone against Staphylococcus epidermidis with a diameter of 18.20 mm, followed by concentrations of 0.5% (15 mm) and 0.25% (13.63 mm). This effectiveness is supported by the presence of flavonoids and tannins in the leaf extract, which act as antibacterial agents by damaging bacterial cell membranes and inhibiting key enzymes involved in bacterial DNA synthesis. In conclusion, liquid bath soap containing Pluchea indica leaf extract is effective in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis, with a 1% concentration providing optimal results. This product shows potential as a pharmaceutical preparation that protects the skin from free radical damage and bacterial infections.
