Abstract

The dietary diversity in adults during the COVID-19 pandemic is one of the essential pillars of achieving optimal health, nutrition, and immunity. The research aims to analyze the correlation between socioeconomic and demographics on the dietary diversity in adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. This cross-sectional study was conducted in March 2021 on adults aged 21-29 years, and the subject sampling method was quota sampling. The variables examined in this study were gender, age, education level, income level, working status, and dietary diversity. Assessment of food diversity using the Individual Dietary Diversity Score (IDDS) method based on 1x24 hour recall results. This study showed that most subjects were female, aged 19-24 years, had an academic/university education level, and an income level of more than Rp. 3,500,000, and almost all subjects worked. The results of the correlation analysis show that there is a significant correlation between income level and dietary diversity (p=0.003). In contrast, gender, age, education level, and occupation show no significant correlation with dietary diversity (p>0.05). Socioeconomic and demographic factors are essential in achieving dietary diversity by existing guidelines or recommendations. In addition, various efforts are needed to increase diverse food consumption, such as nutrition education, health promotion using various media, and providing local food at affordable prices.
