Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) is one of the diseases that develops from time to time in the health sector. Based on the results of Basic Health Research (2013) the development of infectious diseases in Indonesia can be seen from several infectious disease data such as Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) has a prevalence rate of 25%, pneumonia 4.5%, hepatitis 1.2%, while for diarrhoea it is 7.0%. This study aims to determine the profile of antibiotic drug use in ARI patients of paediatric patients and to determine the characteristics of dose suitability, accuracy of route of administration, duration of antibiotic administration, and suitability of antibiotic prescribing to the South Tangerang City General Hospital Formulary for the period January-December 2019. The design of this study is restrospective with Cross Sectional design, data collection in this study comes from secondary by observing the medical records of inpatients with a diagnosis of ARI (Acute Respiratory Tract Infection) to children aged 1-14 years in the period January-December 2019 at the South Tangerang City General Hospital. The study sample totalled 55 inpatients who met the inclusion criteria. Evaluation of the rationality of antibiotic use was analysed descriptively using the Hospital Formulary library, BNF 2018-2019, IONI 2018 and as a comparison of journals related to research on antibiotic use in children, the results of this study showed the length of time for drug administration with a range of 3-5 days by 87.27%, the use of a single antibiotic drug was 90.90%, the most widely used antibiotic was ceftriaxon with a percentage of 60.00%, the most widely used route of drug administration was intravenous (IV) with a percentage of 89.09%, the accuracy of antibiotic use was 81.82%, and the use of inappropriate antibiotics was 18.18%.
